The number of Irish homeowners in mortgage arrears for more than 90 days fell to 5.2% at the end of March, from 5.3% three months earlier, Central Bank data showed on Thursday.

Those behind with payments for up to three months fell at a sharper rate, the data showed. Of the 37,723 accounts in arrears for 90-plus days, 8,632 were overdue by between two and five years, 10,451 by five to 10 years and 5,416 were in arrears for more than 10 years.
