India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Capital Goods sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.62%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.81%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which rose 2.76% or 48.90 points to trade at 1,820.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) added 1.82% or 15.25 points to end at 854.55 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 1.43% or 10.80 points to 767.40 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which fell 2.73% or 31.85 points to trade at 1,133.50 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) declined 2.69% or 49.25 points to end at 1,781.50 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was down 2.65% or 48.05 points to 1,766.55.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which rose 0.71% to 759.70, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 0.69% to settle at 153.05 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which gained 0.26% to close at 3,696.40.

The worst performers were HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 2.73% to 1,133.80 in late trade, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which lost 2.72% to settle at 1,780.60 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 2.67% to 1,766.65 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1057 to 796 and 36 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2051 rose and 1388 declined, while 127 ended unchanged.

Shares in JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) rose to all time highs; up 1.43% or 10.80 to 767.40.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.29% to 18.27.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.50% or 9.70 to $1,955.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 3.40% or 3.34 to hit $94.92 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 3.07% or 3.16 to trade at $99.62 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.01% to 75.91, while EUR/INR rose 0.30% to 82.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 99.77.
