India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.43%

India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Power and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.43%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.34%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 2.95% or 22.30 points to trade at 778.00 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) added 1.94% or 59.45 points to end at 3,124.35 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) was up 1.22% or 6.45 points to 533.30 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which lost 3.77% or 15.55 points to trade at 396.60 in late trade. Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) declined 2.84% or 22.20 points to end at 758.70 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) shed 2.09% or 54.95 points to 2,570.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 2.76% to 776.75, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 1.84% to settle at 3,121.20 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 0.94% to close at 8,865.55.

The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.99% to 3,278.20 in late trade, Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which lost 1.86% to settle at 2,679.60 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.80% to 327.95 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1215 to 639 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2025 fell and 1385 advanced, while 157 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.31% to 19.62.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.33% or 22.80 to $1,686.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.36% or 0.33 to hit $92.31 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.52% or 0.51 to trade at $97.41 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.61% to 82.31, while EUR/INR fell 1.05% to 79.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 113.04.
