India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.34%

India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Metals and Green Energy sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.34%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.34%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which rose 2.21% or 20.55 points to trade at 952.15 at the close. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) added 1.32% or 58.70 points to end at 4,519.25 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) was up 1.04% or 28.25 points to 2,738.70 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which lost 6.00% or 158.10 points to trade at 2,475.60 in late trade. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 2.15% or 15.80 points to end at 718.25 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) shed 1.57% or 8.30 points to 520.20.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 1.96% to 949.00, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was up 1.10% to settle at 4,509.20 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which gained 1.05% to close at 2,711.20.

The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 1.30% to 940.40 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 1.29% to settle at 1,615.65 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 1.23% to 2,672.00 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 976 to 949 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1726 fell and 1624 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.03% to 13.11.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.18% or 3.65 to $1,978.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.69% or 1.23 to hit $74.14 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.54% or 1.18 to trade at $78.02 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.23% to 82.70, while EUR/INR fell 0.31% to 88.93.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 103.64.
